What makes a song a hit? What makes a doctor operate on the wrong side of a patient's head? What makes social change possible when it had seemed so impossible before?

Charles Duhigg will show that the answer to all of these questions lies in the careful study of habit formation. Individuals, organizations and societies are all a product of their habits, whether those habits are carefully cultivated or they are based on impulses.

Habits are inevitable. The human brain craves habits so that it does not have to work so hard and is not involved in constant decision making. The brain does not want to have to think about every step you need to back your car out of the driveway and companies do not want to reinvent the hiring process every time they hire someone new. That is why habits form, to make things easier.

What distinguishes successful people from unsuccessful people is whether we choose to control habits or we let them control us. Without deliberate intentions and focused habit formation, bad habits can emerge with the power to end lives and render people and organizations completely dysfunctional. Conversely, careful reflection and knowledge of the habit loop can help any person or any entity adopt the habits that will get them what they want, whether that be sobriety, wealth, or a caring and loving community.

Review The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg (Audible Audio Edition) Brainy Book Reviews Mark Young Books

I downloaded this e-book yesterday in hopes of learning the nuts and bolts of habit change. I have not read the original book because i meant to read 7-8 books this summer break as i normally dont have the time to read during school quarters. Well, i have to say that it seemed very promising the first half and then slowly dies with a lot of fluff. For a book who is almost 5 stars in amazon and over a 1000 reviews, this summary does not seem like a 5 star. It is good, and will give you an idea of how habits are formed, but it does not go into the details of how to change habits, citing examples and so on. The author seems to be avoge than average in abstracting information and putting it on paper. Reviewing a book must be quite a challenge cosidering all the elements that could keep the original work alive in fewer pages. Im not saying its horrible, but i feel like i did not get much from it. One thing i can say that makes a lot of sense is the concept of Keystone habits. That concept alone, if practiced, could change anyone's life. Then again... please rememeber that i have not read the original work. I dont know if it is full of fluff after the first half. It only takes about 3-4 hours to read... for $4 its worth it. give it a shot!

I like the brief and clear summaries presented. Great!
Few english/ typing mistakes and few innacuracys of the content.
Nice summary if you dont have much time to read the complete book.
I'm glad i found this wonderful book. I understand the basic concepts of the longer book and saved so much time.
Was very pleased to discover that although this was a small book, it was packed with life-changing information. I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to change bad habits or create helpful ones!
I most liked the takeaways given at the end of each chapter. Of course one must trust that the summarizer is accurate in identifying the salient points of each chapter. Recommended for those who want the kernels of knowledge from the book without the supporting material.
This is one of the best books I've read in long time. The author explores the subject of habit in a manner that informs, intrigues and inspires the reader. If you are fascinated by the wonders of the mind you will live this book.
The following is a review of a review of a book. This book review was written about the book called "The Power of Habit." Each individual chapter is broken down into a brief overview, a more detailed chapter review, then three key points to take away from the chapter. The original book used case studies for each chapter and these were thoroughly examined in this review as well. If you just want to get a quick view of what the original book is about without having to read the whole thing then you need to buy this review! It is well written and concise.
